KHPP is a thermoelectric power station. It is the main supplier of heat and electric power to the Kaunas inhabitants. From it not only heat, but also electric power reaches the dwellings of Kaunas. KHPP strives to become the most innovative, most reliable and socially most responsible heat supplier in Lithuania. The Russian gas concern GAZPROM is the main owner of the Kaunas Heat and Power Plant (KHPP) and has 99.5 per cent of KHPP shares. GAZPROM is the biggest supplier of natural gas in the world. It extracts gas in Russia and supplies it to almost all countries of Middle and East Europe. GAZPROM also owns the longest gas pipe network in the world stretching out for 150 thousand kilometers. The Russian concern was established in 1989 and employs more than 436 thousand workers.
